«I was thinking about the objects people keep long after the person who gave them the object is gone.»
This painting started as a study of my grandmother's sewing box — not the box itself, but the specific arrangement of things inside it, which nobody had touched in the two years since she died. I wanted the canvas to hold that same undisturbed quality: things placed, not styled.
Where the idea for this piece began.
Oil on canvas, worked in layers over several weeks.
Built up, partly removed, and left to sit before returning to it.
Connected to a specific, half-reconstructed recollection.
Left open — the title is a starting point, not an explanation.
